She's a Young Chicana

Who for years felt lost

And confused about her culture. She was afraid

To not meet the expectations

That came from a so called

“DEFINITION”

She was truly afraid that she was not enough

To stand up for those who came before her and

For the future Chicanas like her little sister

Aaliyah, who is being taught to not be afraid to stand out.

Yes of course she has those who inspire her to keep going.

Como Gloria Anzaldua

Whose words of

“To survive the Borderlands, you must live sin fronteras, be a crossroads”

Llego el punto, the breakthrough moment

Ella se canso de temer, to fear was no longer a thing she wanted to do.

She tossed the idea of perfect out the window and realized she is who decides the

kind of Chicana she is going to be!

She can still be the brown-eyed beauty everyone knows with the big heart who

accepts all

But she’s going to use that to spread the words,

THIS IS OUR CULTURE & WE BELONG

She will use her love and voice to fight

For equality and make a difference in every way possible.

Her goal is to no longer be silent, that is no longer an option for her.

This brown-eyed beauty,

Con un corazón de oro y una mente firme soy yo. She is me.

I decide to stand firm for my culture and my family. For someone who it took a

while to believe in herself despite looking up to my favorite chicana

activists and to have a mother who kept going despite all the doors that

closed on her.

Today in front of you is someone who believes en si misma and will make a

difference.
