My poem

As a Chicano, i have the ability to link two worlds with ease.

A skill many people today would qualify as a social disease.

Nothing like COVID19 giving a future that can’t be foreseen.

A disease ravaging our communities and with no sight of a vaccine.

But COVID 19 is just one more tool, being used by the rich

To make a quick buck off the backs of our race

With no sensible reason other than to leave us in a ditch

Our people have no choice but to “isolate” in a public place

From restaurants, and factories, to hospitals, and farms

It’s time to legalize our peoples stay in this country

But like history has taught us, we fall for their charms

“No, its not the time. Not the place,” To put it bluntly

From rapists, criminals, and illegals, to “essential workers”.

The oppression of the Chicano is never ending.

One moment they need us, the next it’s “send em back over the border”

But somehow, our culture is always trending.

It’s time to acknowledge the attack on our lives.

How the system is stacked against those with no chance.

How living in America is trying to survive

With issues deserving more than just a glance.

“Pa Adelante” has always been the phrase of our people.

Progress is in our nature, to achieve and succeed

To confront evil. We are left in a deep hole

Constantly fighting for the equality we need.

We are the future and we will prevail

This country without would be as bland as old hell

I am a chicano and i have the ability to link two worlds with ease.

Unfortunately, its a skill many people would deem as a social disease.
